OUR PHILOSOPHY: Clear Writing
We are uncompromisingly opposed to the self important obscurities of academic writing. We believe that the first purpose of writing is to clarify a point by reducing it to its simplest formulation.
We believe that the second purpose is to convey that point to the reader in plain and accessible language. Writing is not meant to show how clever and well educated the writer is; it is to show proper respect for the issue under discussion and the reader’s time.
We are not afraid of the uncomplimentary accusation that we are “journalistic”. We agree with the 18th century French Philosopher Diderot that: “Obscure authors write only for a few initiates when it would have cost them only a month of toil to render their books clear and comprehensible to all, a month sparing a thousand able minds three arduous years of study.” Indeed we believe that even Monsieur Diderot could have made his point more simply.
Authors wishing to submit manuscripts must conform to this writing standard.
